Southport Golf Club

Did you know Southport Golf Club is the oldest golf club in Queensland? It was founded in 1894 and has been located at the present site since 1925. The club has a rich history and has been host to many prestigious events, including the Australian Open (which it hosted 14 times between 1936 and 1971). Scottish professional golfer James Henderson designed the course.

The club has a rich history and has been host to numerous tournaments. The club has recently undergone extensive renovations to update its facilities. The result is a modern, well-equipped golf club that offers an enjoyable experience for all golfers.

The course at Southport Golf Club measures 6,300 meters and features 18 holes. The system’s layout is such that it presents a challenge for all levels of golfer, from beginners to seasoned pros. The fairways are wide and forgiving, but the strategically placed bunkers and water hazards provide ample opportunity for players to test their skills.

The club’s first course was located on what is now known as Queens Esplanade in Southport. In those early days, the system was just nine holes (later increased to 12), and it wasn’t until 1901 that the club moved to its current location on Benowa Road. Over the years, Southport Golf Club has undergone several changes and renovations. The most recent occurred in 2016 when Australian golf course architect Mike Clayton was brought in to oversee a $4 million redevelopment project. The project included the construction of new practice facilities, a new clubhouse and redesigning several holes on the course.

The clubhouse at Southport Golf Club is spacious and modern, with a fully stocked pro shop and a restaurant that overlooks the 18th hole. The club also has a driving range and practice putting green for those who want to warm up before their round.
